My journey of self discovery

Finding Inspiration in Movement

A Path to Inner Peace Through Qigong

Inner peace meditation
path to balance

Welcome!

Hi, I’m Colm. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved movement, and meditation has always brought me peace. Discovering Qigong allowed me to combine both, creating a daily practice that brings calm, balance, and renewed energy.

My journey began while traveling, exploring yoga and music. One day I saw a friend moving with such grace and fluidity it looked like meditation in motion. I joined in, and that was my first taste of Qigong. What started as curiosity grew into a daily practice that now brings me calm, balance, and renewed energy.

How Qigong Transformed My Mindset and Health

There was a time I would wake up already overwhelmed, my mind racing before the day began. Long hours at a desk left me drained, even when I tried to rest.

Qigong became my reset. Even five minutes of practice could calm my nervous system, clear my mind, and restore focus. With consistency, the results were life-changing, bringing me more energy, steadier emotions, and a deeper sense of presence.

Through Qigong, I’ve learned to:

  • Release self-judgment and stress

  • Improve sleep, posture, and circulation

  • Feel grounded in the middle of chaos

  • Deepen my spirituality and inner peace

Training & Tools

I began learning wherever I could online and in books. One day I found a course that offered structure and guidance from a Sifu (master).

Along the way, I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupressure, discovering simple yet powerful tools for sleep, digestion, stress relief, and holistic healing.

Today I weave these practices into daily life and share them with others seeking clarity, calm energy, and resilience.

I’m also part of a thriving community with a shared goal: to make Qigong known and accessible to others.

How I Teach

My approach integrates body, breath, and awareness to support calm energy, resilience, and clarity. Through gentle movement, grounding practices, and mindful attention, Qigong becomes a tool for restoring balance, even in short moments throughout the day.

Core Principles

  • Song (Relaxation): Letting go of tension to free energy

  • Ting (Focus): Using breath and awareness to stay present

  • Wu-wei: Effortless action, flowing with life rather than against it

  • Balance of Yin & Yang: Knowing when to push forward and when to ease back

These principles guide practice and help navigate challenges with calm and steadiness.

How I Practice

I enjoy practicing Qigong both at home and outdoors, drawing inspiration from the changing seasons.

Outdoor practice strengthens my connection with nature, while indoor sessions offer comfort and focus, showing how Qigong adapts to any setting.

Memorable moments often come from practicing outdoors, feeling calm under trees or finding stillness beneath the stars. The contrast between stress and serenity makes these experiences stand out, showing how Qigong deepens connection with nature and presence.

Morning routines, quiet afternoons, and evening practice each bring their own sense of renewal.

I often adapt my practise to the elements: fire practices help me stay warm in winter, while water practices cool and refresh in summer.

The Five Elements (Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire) reflect qualities within the body and help us stay in rhythm with nature. Strengthening the Water element, for example, supports the kidneys and restores vitality.

Exploring these elements reminds us how deeply we are connected to the natural world. Take the 5 Elements Quiz to explore your own balance.

Whether it’s two minutes between tasks, 20 minutes in the morning, or a longer session, Qigong remains a flexible companion.

Daily Life Integration

Qigong isn’t something I leave behind after practice; it shapes how I live.

  • Morning: I start the day with energy and focus.

  • Midday: A short practice resets my mind when it begins to clutter.

  • Evening: Calming movements help me wind down and sleep more deeply.

Even brief moments, like a mindful breath, a gentle movement, relaxing into posture, can shift your state.

One practise I like, the Inner Smile, invites a sincere smile inward, to spread positive energy through the body and calm the mind.

Core Practices

I’ve found three foundations make Qigong truly effective:

  1. Relaxation: Tension blocks the flow of Qi; letting go allows energy to move freely.

  2. Breath: Deep, natural breathing nourishes body and mind.

  3. Awareness: Attention guides energy and helps us meet life with presence.

Together they create a mindset of release, openness, and enjoyment.

Flow and Authenticity

Beneath surface thoughts, space exists for spontaneity, yet these often remain hidden.

Softening, tuning into the breath, and moving guides us into this openness, a natural flow known as Wu Wei.

From here, authentic expression (Ziran) and true vitality emerge.

Wu Wei reminds me that flow needs trust as much as intent, in the body, in the breath, and in life itself.

Finding My Rhythm

I approach Qigong in ways that fit life, body, and mood. Some days I have energy for twenty minutes standing, other days I practise seated. Showing up for yourself matters; how you show up does not, because simply practising Qigong cultivates presence.

Making space for a few minutes daily brings calm, and over time, presence deepens naturally. I’m no longer focused on “becoming a master,” but on the journey of mastery itself.

Everyone finds their own rhythm, and the practice adjusts with them.

Embracing the Path

For me, Qigong is more than an art; it is a way of living in harmony with energy, nature, and spirit. It has given me tools to meet stress with calm, find strength in softness, and approach life with a clearer mind and open heart.

Enjoying the Journey

Over the years, I’ve realized that as much as I know, there is still so much to learn. And while “learn 100, forget 75” makes sense, beneath the form lies a deep abundance of wisdom and philosophy.

Qigong has shown me patience, adaptability, and balance, each reminding me that virtue unfolds as a living process and that each of us has wisdom to share.

I’ve seen how energy plays into daily life in music, running (Qi running), walking or hiking, and cycling. Sometimes moments of stillness or doing nothing give me new inspiration for my next Qigong session. Moments spent in nature or reading books have led me to distil wisdom so deeply that I could one day write my own reflections.

A few quotes that resonate with me:

  • “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

  • “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

  • “He who conquers others is strong; he who conquers himself is mighty.”

  • “Manifest plainness, embrace simplicity, reduce selfishness, and have few desires.”

  • “To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.”

These words remind me to live with patience, embrace simplicity, and cultivate steadiness to support personal growth and a calm, clear mind.

Sharing My Qigong Experience

Qigong has given me calm, clarity, and resilience in times of stress or overwhelm. Realizing my own strength through moments of weakness shows that we can surpass our perceived limitations. Perception truly shifts with consistent practice.

Seeing others discover these qualities brings me joy, even if the change is gradual, subtle, or unseen. When milestones do appear, they can become visible, and for that reason, I sometimes track my progress. Here are a few notable moments in my journey:

  • Over ten years of dedicated Qigong practice and community involvement

  • Completed first one-year intensive Qigong training program, integrating extensive material

  • Cleared vertigo through TCM, combining Qigong, acupressure, and lifestyle adjustments

  • Currently pursuing an advanced Qigong qualification focused on teaching

  • Created my own Qigong program, integrating years of practice, study, and personal insight
